On June 24, the Airport Engineering Department and Urban Rail Engineering Department jointly conducted a teaching research activity with the theme "Discussion on Undergraduate Graduation Design and Undergraduate Training Program" in the Second Conference Room of the Highway College at the South Campus. Professor Zhang Jiupeng, the Party Committee Secretary of the college, was invited to attend and provide guidance. The activity was chaired by Professor Hui Bing, Deputy Director of the Airport Engineering Department, with nearly 20 faculty members from both departments participating in the discussion.
At the beginning of the event, Professor Hui Bing pointed out that the activity aimed to optimize the undergraduate graduation design process, improve the undergraduate training program, and enhance the quality of talent cultivation. Subsequently, faculty members engaged in lively discussions on key issues such as topic selection for graduation design, process management, evaluation of outcomes, as well as course design and practical teaching in the training program.
During the discussion on undergraduate graduation design, faculty members shared problems and experiences encountered while guiding students in their graduation design, based on their teaching practices. Everyone agreed that graduation design is a crucial part of undergraduate education, serving as a key stage for cultivating students' ability to comprehensively apply knowledge and solve practical problems. Emphasis was placed on the practicality and innovation of topic selection, closely aligning with industry development needs and academic frontiers. At the same time, it was emphasized that guidance and management of the graduation design process should be strengthened to ensure students complete their design tasks with high quality within the specified time.
In the discussion on the undergraduate training program, faculty members put forward many constructive suggestions regarding the curriculum system, optimization of teaching content, and practical teaching components, starting from the goal of talent cultivation. It was widely believed that the training program should keep pace with the times and industry demands, highlight professional characteristics, and focus on cultivating students' comprehensive qualities and innovative abilities. On one hand, the curriculum system should be optimized, with strengthened course cohesion and integration to avoid content repetition. On the other hand, the proportion of practical teaching should be increased, and industry-university-research collaboration should be deepened to expand students' practical opportunities.
Professor Zhang Jiupeng fully affirmed the activity, emphasizing the importance of grassroots teaching organizations in implementing teaching tasks and improving teaching quality. He encouraged both departments to take this activity as an opportunity to deepen cooperation and promote innovation in undergraduate teaching reform. He also stressed the need to adhere to a student-centered approach in the talent cultivation process, focusing on developing students' sense of social responsibility, innovative spirit, and practical abilities.
This joint teaching research activity provided a platform for faculty members from both departments to exchange ideas, deepened their understanding of undergraduate graduation design and training programs, and laid the foundation for optimizing talent cultivation and improving teaching quality. In the future, the Airport Engineering Department and Urban Rail Engineering Department will continue to strengthen the construction of grassroots teaching organizations, carry out diverse teaching research activities, and enhance the effectiveness of talent cultivation.
